Julia Sweeney With "Letting Go Of God"--An Atheist Anthem

(Originally posted by Jill on Nov. 11, 2007)

Julia Sweeney and me: "Letting Go of God " (MP3,3:55)

Atheists are big this year. You have the best selling books by Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens. In a year where three Republican presidential hopefuls have said they don't believe in evolution, I find it refreshing. Agree with them or not, none of them have quite the heart and humor of Julia Sweeney. And she's really, really smart.

Julia, who some of you know as Pat from SNL, has also been recognized for her amazing one-woman shows, " God Said Ha" and her latest, "Letting Go of God".

This is the song that we wrote for the movie of "Letting Go Of God" —which isn't out yet, but when it is I am hoping we get a Best Song Grammy. If Melissa can get it for that song she wrote for the Al Gore movie, why can't we?

Also, for those of you in the Los Angeles area, Julia and I are doing the "Jill And Julia Show" at Largo on the 13th of November. What happens is that I sing a song, and then she tells a somewhat related story. As our theme song goes, "sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But, overall, it's a swell show.
